Starcraft II Announcement

The game is being split up into three separate titles that need to be bought separately. The Zerg, Protoss, and Terran campaigns will be split into three different Starcraft II titles, all sold separately. Now, a price hasn't been announced for the different copies, but information that has been released towards them is this. The original Starcraft had 32 missions, 12 Terran, 10 Zerg, 10 Protoss. Each Starcraft II title, will have around 30 missions for each faction, which is supposed to enhance the game play and give the gamer more choice as to which faction they wants to play.

I cant decide if this is a good thing or a bad thing, its all going to depend on how much they decide to charge for each individual title. For example, if each game is priced at a standard 40-60$, Ill be upset, but the extra gameplay in each may make up for it.

It has nothing to do with "story" and everything to do with $.

I'm sure that you'll only be able to play as the race that you own also in multiplayer games.   Want to try out Zerg but own Protoss... Go buy the other copy.

Incorrect, Sorry i forgot to add that part in. Doesn't matter which copy you own, multiplayer wise all three races are playable.

Agreed. They had 10 years to make this game, and are trying to squeeze every penny out of it. Meanwhile, Valve spent years making TF2 and sold it for $30.

I like the idea.  They have had 10 years to make the game and came up with such an awesome story it couldn't be compacted into one game.  Rather than charge us $90 for one incredibly awesome package they figured they would go easy on us.

It just gets better... you had to wait 10 years for SC2, now you're gonna have to wait another year to play Single Player as Zergs, and two more years for Protoss.

I'm not surprised.

Think about it, Blizzard is probably banking on multiplayer with this one. Provided that the first game provides all the multiplayer and the subsequent releases are 99% single player with only a few minor multiplayer tweaks, then I have no problem with it.

If they plan on significantly altering multiplayer (think The Frozen Throne) each year, then I'll be disappointed.

Yeah, all three races are available at release. It's more of a Here's Starcraft II, you get as many missions as you would for a normal one, but instead it's all terran.  Zerg and Protoss are the expansions.  Also, I would hope that this would help them take feedback on the multiplayer and the map editor, and allow major patches for each with the release of each expansion.
