So my work is doing a LAN for me before i get married this friday, and we're wanting to play TF2. The problem is that we'll probably only have about maybe 4-8 people at the LAN, and we all know that TF is no fun w/ few people. So i'm thinking we'll just password protect the server and let people join via the internet if people want to. If not we'll probably scrap TF2 and play somethin else, but i think it'd be fun to do TF2 (especially since only a few people have played it at my work, and i could just destroy them, lol).

Anyone interested?  I'm not exactly sure how many people could be in the server. Our work has a 10Mb connection to our data center which is connected to l3 (tier 1) so I think connections to the server would be fine (especially for locals) but I'm not sure how much data goes in and out. If it's less than like 100K/s then we should have no problem getting like 10 people connected from the internet, and then the rest of us will be local.

Anyone know how much data tf2 uses in and out? And who would be interested in playing with us?

looks like when i'm playing on a server w/ about 30 people i'm getting 20-25k/s in and 5 k/s out. don't know if that's kb or Kb in. either way we should be fine w/ 10-15 people connected i'm thinking.

Erm, if I remember right (don't quote me on this, I never looked much into running TF2 servers) TF2 uses quite a bit of data, but it used less data and was easier on hardware than a high performance CSS server. Mainly because precision in TF2 isn't anywhere near as big of a deal and because the max tic rate is hard coded at 66. Although, I really don't know what I'm talking about, so I'm going to shut up.

I may jump on if I have some time, all depends on what happens that night and if I'm ready for my midterm the next morning. I mostly play TF2 these days.

I'd play for a bit.  Haven't been as active in tf2 since l4d, but I keep thinking I should play some.

Here's the server info:

IP: 208.53.36.77
Port: 27015

We'll probably start playing around 6pm mountain time (after we get set up and eat). I have the server up already so you should be able to just join whenever.

yeah i think i got the server pretty well configured. and i don't think bandwidth will be an issue. right now it's running at 500fps server side and i ping around 22 and comcast people ping around 40's with no choke, so here's hoping it runs smoothly all night.

thanks to all that came, it was fun. i was hopin my co-workers would have been better than they were. they were decent at unreal tournament, but TF2 is a different beast. other than me and paddleball, everyone else had literally just barely bought and installed the game, so that's why they weren't very good. part of the problem was my fault in that i should have only had like 2 maps, because 50% of being good at team fortress is knowing the map, which they didn't. the other problem was that they all kept joining the same team! lol.

sorry if it was boring because it wasn't much of a challenge. anywho, thanks for coming and those who came have successfully given me my wedding gift, the rest of you, please send your $100 amazon or newegg gift certificate to my email address :p

and jaminz, i'm your friend, just not when other people are around.  Cactuar left
