Hey guys... check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krakatoa

I watched a really good program on the history channel last night about this and i was totally astounded by what happened in 1883 with this volcano. It was a series of three islands that erupted simultaneously and two of the islands became the caldera of the volcano and blew the actual volcano 'island' apart. what remains is and has now been growing at 5 inches per week (since 1950) and is massive again.
the Indo-Australian plate is subducting under the Eurasian plate causing this massive build up - thus forming Krakatoa.

This has the potential to erupt in the near future with the onset of heavier earthquakes in the area and could dwarf most of the other problems in the world considering the coastal towns in Sumatra and Java will be completely wiped out. (we're talkin like millions people)

Do you guys think that most of the world isnt paying enough attention to things looming like this? Sure, we dont have a way of telling exactly when it will erupt - but is there enough science dedicated to this type of thing? Is there enough world awareness? do people even give a shit? or do we only care about these things post natural disaster?

Saw it - did your hear the part where it was the loudest noise ever recorded on Earth?  If it had been in NYC - you could have heard it in San Fran.  Boom!

OOO cool! im glad someone else watches the nerd stuff too!
yeah, somehow, i cant believe that - i know its very likely true, but i cannot imagine something that loud. and they said it was heard all the way to Australia - and thats only 200 miles away.
i think it would be a shitload louder if it was from SF to NY.
