Not that I don't believe Adobe said that... but link please?

I read a benchmark test adobe did a few years ago... pre-Vista.  Needless to say, I haven't kept it book marked that long.  Maybe google for adobe benchmarks?

Like you said though, most of the reasons you have for running OSX can just as easily be used for *nix.  Maybe Mac is more user-friendly than, say, Ubuntu, but I don't think that justifies the obscene price markups that apple engages in.

latro! justifies the cost by writing off all apple purchases as business expenses for his website.

i use what suits my needs, if apple met any of my needs with a good cost/benefit ratio i would use them.  they have yet to do so for any of my needs which cover a fairly broad spectrum.  however if latro wants to send me the required apple components i'd write up a side by side comparison of apple v linux htpc, and if he wants to be thorough(not likely on a site dedicated to a specific brand) he could send me a vista htpc and i'll include it in the comparison.  after the review you can resell the stuff like you do with most of your reviewed items.

Honestly... I've been wanting to build a home media center.... and was considering Ubuntu.. I just need it to play video and sit in a closet in the basement..

But, if I come into some extra cash I'll consider your idea Mongoose..

adobe WILL run faster on PC than Mac for a while at least.

here's your linky: from macworld even

when it runs 64-bit on macs, i'm sure they'll benchmark the two against each other again.

@latro

check out what jeff atwood has done recently in the HTPC sector. i think you might dig.

MCE is a joke unless you are running it on a true Media Center PC. For a regular PC + MCE it = lame.

Although I do like WMP... for my audio purposes (VLC for video)
