Ok so throughout the course of my writings, and my searches for character development, i have come across the archetype's of common characters, this i have found to be rather helpful, however it is also quite frustrating.
for example, now that i know about archetypes, my personality battles with the idea of writing something so formulaic, however its not the fact that i am actually trying to write a character according to an archetype, it just happens. and then because it is happening, it starts to define your character even more, and if they do something or act outside of that character, it seems unnatural and forced.
thoughts anyone?

Ah man, jealous.

My solution, drink until you forget these archetypes and then go about writing the way it feels right.  If you feel your character would do something, then let them do it.  Stick it to the man!  Afro

well yeah, i mean it doesnt define my character to a T but its hard to get away from archetypes. mostly every story has some kind of classical archetype for a character.
