Yes government subsidies are a keyword for more spending and I believe the part where he says to raise the tax on gasoline covers the more taxes part you mention. So he and I understand that this means more taxes, not just magical money pulled out of someones ass to say cover more wars or tax rebate checks cut from some imaginary fund.
True wind farms can't be placed anywhere, but let's place them where we can and get some hydro going where we can and I'm not too fond of the nuclear plant idea as I just saw the bill nye the other day where he went out to the huge nuclear storage facility being built into the mountain and the engineers couldn't explain why they were finding ground water leaks when there aren't supposed to be any. Not to mention the life cycle for the storeage facility was calculated at a fraction of the time needed for the waste planned to be stored there to become "safe." Can you say smoke and mirrors?

Even so, if you tax more on gasoline that only hurts our economy more. If truckers can't afford to ship around goods then we lose a vital part of our transportation. It sounds nice to get more money off of gas, but it hurts ourselves. Hydroelectric dams are controversial as well because it hurts the FISHES! OH NOES! As for the nuclear power storage, I haven't read anything about that... but in general (the process, not the storage) it is fairly clean.

Couldn't we do a higher gasoline tax without raising the tax on diesel? Necessity is the mother of invention and the transportation of goods industry is already hurting from the oil issues, we need to start thinking about solutions to this problem and I'm open to ideas. I think taking away demand for oil being used in personal automobiles would increase supply available for use in diesel and bring the price down. Maybe more local manufacturing and less importing of goods? I just think that with things already in the shiiter now is a good time to buckle down and work on these problems instead of trying to put a tourniquet on it and hope the next guys figure it out.

Well, it's gonna hurt. No matter what we do, it's gonna hurt. But if we get it over and done with now, it will hurt a whole hell of a lot less. People are actually going to have to cut back on things. Shipping WILL be more, our groceries and everything else WILL cost more. So we may not have our 500+ channel satellite for a while, or our 3 cars, or our 52'' plasma TV, or our 4-wheelers. Which in the long run, will be well worth it. We can't continue the unsustainable amounts of 'stuff' we go through now. Knocking us down a notch or two would be a good idea to get our habits a little more in line.

So basically you are saying that we need to go into a depression to teach us a lesson? How does that work? Or alternatively we could keep all that we had, not go in a depression by not taxing gas to over $5 a gallon, since prices have gone down 40 cents in the past few months. Just let the market settle out and we'll be fine.

Exactly what I'm saying. That is probably the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Because of the depression and the New Deal politics we have the mess that we call Social Security. I don't think going through that again would be logicaL.

Shit jake called mah bluff. I actually don't know who the mother of invention is, nor the father.
Owning less shit does not equal a depression, owning less shit equals fiscally responsible. Letting the market settle won't fix shit, without expanding alt fuels demand will go up again or opec will limit supply so they ca get a better price for their product. Either way you're gonna need to learn to buy fewer luxuries and focus on necessities. I like powdered's thinking, now man up and tighten that belt bitch.

Hey Logical.... Before you post.. you must say "I do not know everything... I am often wrong"
then type your post, and if you still feel good about it... click Post..
Thanks!
Latro wtf are you talking about, according to your link we do get most of our total petroleum from Canada not the middle east. I never said anything about OPEC or prices. Just where we get most of it from. First off, that wasn't my link.. And you must not know what OPEC is, because POWEDERED! links shows that the countries that make up OPEC provide us with more oil than CANADA.

Yeah but you missed his point though. Sure being a bit more focused on conservative spending (see what I did there) would be a good thing for all families. But he clearly stated that going through a depression (i.e. soup lines) would be a good thing. How is American's suffering good for America? Good doesn't equal bad.

How is american's suffering being good for america? Ask the soldiers.
That was his sarcastic remark to your melodramatic assumption that him saying we'd have less disposable income for shit like 4 wheelers meant he wanted a depression. YOU defined not having a 52 inch tv as a "depression" HE said nothing of soup lines he merely agreed that if YOUR definition of a depression was no 500 channels, no big screen tv and no 4 wheelers then yes he wanted a "depression" of that type.
When you apply at fox news don't bother with a resume just send them this thread; they'll probably fire o'reilly on spot to make room for the Logical(oh the irony) show.

Here let me help you. So basically you are saying that we need to go into a depression to teach us a lesson?
Exactly what I'm saying. Also the definition of Depression "a long-term economic state characterized by unemployment and low prices and low levels of trade and investment" And Mongoose, I know several soldiers who've served over in Iraq and they say that what we are doing is helpful to their people. Not all doom and gloom.
