If I have 15 bars of metal, and one of them is lighter than the rest and i have a blance scale, what is the fewest number of times they can be weighted to determine which is the lightest bar?

The fewest number of times is 1. If you put 7 on one side, 7 on the other, and they balance, the bar you left off of the scale is the lightest. Highly unlikely, but there you go.
Boo ya.

jake was wrong on the first one. because what if they don't balance? you know which SIDE its on, but you gotta keep on repeating the procedure so technically, it's 4 times.

If they don't balance you're just unlucky. But if they do then you only went one time. Let me do the math here 1 < 4 So TECHNICALLY it's one time.

If you'll reread the question, it says what is the FEWEST number of times they can be weighed. The fewest number of times is 1. I win. You lose. Me > you.

I'm pretty this wouldn't be a real question if 1 was the correct number... what's implied is that what is the fewest times they need to be weighed to GUARANTEE that you know exactly which one is the one thats lighter and assuming all scenarios. AND its far more likely that they dont balance. but then this is the opg forum but jake wins and jed loses? cause jake did say its HIGHLY UNLIKELY but im pretty sure the question is just phrased badly due to jaminz's drunkenness

That's the great things about trick questions. The implied answer is wrong. The question states, "what is the fewest number of times they CAN be weighed to determine which is the lightest bar." It doesn't say anything about a guarantee.
You are wrong. It's time to live with that and move on.

It is true. You are driving a bus, at the first stop 3 men get on and 2 women. At the second stop 1 woman with 2 children gets on and 2 men get off. At the last stop 5 men try to get on, but you turn 1 of the men away because his pet dog is not allowed on the bus. What is the bus drivers name and social security number?

Rather it is: Manhole covers are round because they will be used as wheels for makeshift wagons when the zombie epidemic strikes!
When this country breaks down into civil war and everyone is dying, Jed will be very alive due his zombie survival knowledge. However, there will be no zombies so he will become depressed and take his own life.
