It appears that although ID Software is developing its next game for a release across the Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and Mac platforms that only the Xbox 360 version of the game will be missing out.
John Carmack from ID Software is reported to have stated that because of the extra fee Microsoft charges for games with 3 Disks that Rage graphics will be reduced on the 360 to make sure that the game contents fits on 2 Disks.
Carmack looks to be trying to put pressure on Microsoft to somehow avoid the 3rd disk charge, but at the same time brings forth a larger issue. As game content continues to grow, will developers and distributors decided to reduce the visual or content on the Xbox 360 game to keep costs down? This could seriously hinder Microsoft’s console in its battle for the core gamer with Sony’s PS3.
If in fact Rage is limited in quality on the Xbox 360 it looks like the first time that a game on Apple’s Macintosh computers will look better than Microsoft’s console.
