I’ll give Bethesda’s VP kudos for being gutsy. In a recent round table interview in London, the Bethesda VP Pete Hines declared that Fallout 3 is definitely a better game than Edler Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Wait… What?
He skirted the issue of review scores, (tee hee) but did have this to say about the subject,
“I don’t have any doubts that on the whole, and I think this is a belief universally shared on the team that Fallout is a better game,” said Hines. “But we’re also not oblivious to the fact that we have a lot of extra baggage that we’re carrying, being the guys picking up this franchise, that are re-imagining this series from 10 years ago, and there’s something that comes along with that. We’re very well aware of what we’re up against.”
Okay, then. I’m not exactly sure that it’s fair to compare the two, just like apples and oranges. Regardless, if Bethesda is so amazingly confident in Fallout 3, I might need to take a second look. I had written it off as a second rate and gimmicky. But when your VP says things like this
“I have no doubts in my mind that, at its core and for everything that it provides that Fallout is a better game than Oblivion was. For sure.”
Then, it may be time for a second look.
