Over the past year or so Guitar Hero has taken video gamers by storm. Gamers have flocked to the version versions that have been released on multiple gaming systems from the Playstation 2 to the Mac. One thing that seems universal for all gamers on all systems is that if you stick a control in the shape of a guitar and play some loud music then enjoyment and game sales are sure to spike.

The Guitar Hero franchise’s latest attempt to sell more games is to add a popular Band to the title. Guitar Hero Aerosmith is much the same as all previous Guitar Hero games but with the music and band history of Aerosmith combined with other music picked by the band. This is great news if you’re an Aerosmith fan, but if you’re not… then most your gaming experience will be distracted by music you don’t like.

Gameplay

Nintencast - Guitar Hero Aerosmith (Wii) (Wii Screenshots).pngI believe all Guitar Hero’s gameplay is what makes it a great game. The Aerosmith version falls in line with its predecessors and gives you a sense that what and how you play will impact the music, the audience, and even your music career.

Despite knowing it is just a game something about the game allows all of us musically challenged individuals to understand why so many people want to be in a band. I imagine that hitting the power cords and making the audience scream provides many with the same feelings FPS gamers get when they hit those jumping head shots across the map.

Story

Guitar Hero’s story consists of taking a band member from just getting started to reaching fame and fortune at the top of their career. The Aerosmith version is interesting in that in focuses on the band events that made Aerosmith the band many have come to know over the past 4 decades.

Videos of the band in between gigs and then actually playing songs with the Aerosmith avatars rocking out add to the experience but pull away any feeling of you moving through a career yourself.

That Jazz

The Wii version of the game included stereo sound which was missing from some of the first Guitar Hero 3 for the Wii. The music picked by Aerosmith to include in the game is great.

Both their own music and the music from other bands that they selected are enjoyable to play and listen to. Of course, this all only applies if you’re an Aerosmith fan.

I enjoyed the few extra guitar “movement” controls that the Wii version of the game adds. There isn’t much controller movement that you can add to the game, but the few included seem to make sense and fit in nicely.

oPg Factor

If you haven’t already purchased Guitar Hero 3 and you’re a big fan of Aerosmith this is a solid way to get into the Guitar gaming experience. At the same time, if you already own a Guitar Hero there really isn’t a need to pick this game up.

This game is great for replay and with friends. The ability to really impact your score by the way and how well you play makes it great for trash talking with your buddies.

Overall, Guitar Hero Aerosmith is very enjoyable on the Wii, but not worth picking up if you’ve got previous versions of the game.
