Lately, all of the biggest games that have been released are sequels.  Now, there is nothing wrong with this, sequels can be great.  I stress “can” because I’m sure others of you out there, like me, have played a game, looked forward to the sequel and then had it blow bittersweet chunks of sputum all over your screen.  I have, however, played many sequels myself, and enjoyed them thoroughly.

Still, I’m longing for something new.  A new story, a new concept, something that isn’t just recycled from previous games.  I realize that these days, due to how many different games are out, it is hard to come up with something completely original. Stiil, don’t you think it’s time to switch things up a bit?  What happened to the good ol’ days when we could play a game wherein there was a “french chef, riding giant stick insects, wielding a gun that shoots Velociraptors?” *

It just seems to me that everyone is relying on sequels rather than trying to make something new that people will enjoy, because that would mean that the designers would actually have to come up with something themselves rather than just ripping each other off like they’ve been doing for years.

But maybe that’s just me.  Oh well.  While I’m still looking forward to things like Gears 2 and Starcraft 2, I just wish something truly new will pop in and blow everyone away.
